When and where do you rehearse?
We rehearse every Wednesday evening during term time at The Carnegie Theatre in Workington. Anyone interested in joining is welcome to come along for a few rehearsals to get a feel for the choir with no ongoing commitment.
How much does it cost?
There is a small membership fee to help with such things as purchasing music and hire of the rehearsal room. This is only payable once you have decided to join.
Do I need to read music?
You do not need to read music to join us, though it can help you along. If you cannot read music, you may like to consider singing with the sopranos (women) or tenors (men), as these groups tend to follow the tune and can be easier to pick up. However, you are more than welcome to join the section that suits and out members are always happy to lend a helping hand if you need it.
What kind of music do you sing?
The music we sing is varied and we like to keep things fresh and interesting. You can find us singing everything from Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen to Handel’s Messiah! We cover a huge range of genres including classical, songs from the shows, pop, jazz, folk, modern classics and more.
Where and when do you sing?
A standard year for us includes three concerts, including a popular Christmas concert, a formal Spring concert, and a more relaxed Summer concert. In between these, we are often asked to sing at other events, including Workington council events, fundraisers, and even weddings!
Is there an age limit?
At the moment, we are only able to accept members aged 18+. There is no upper age limit.
Are there any social events?
There are a number of social events during the year, including member dinners and anniversary celebrations. Occasionally, we even take our singing abroad and have in the past travelled to Selm in Germany as part of the twinning relationship with Workington. These are optional but many of our members enjoy coming along and singing with an international choir! All social events are completely optional.
